Welcome Page 1 | Page 2A WELCOME FROM THE PROVINCIAL GRAND MASTER - JAMES KITSON Welcome to the website for Freemasonry in the Province of Cornwall It is hoped that you will find it both useful and illuminating, whether a member or just casually browsing. Many people who are not members of our organisation are interested in Masonry for a myriad of reasons. Some become interested because of the mystique that surrounds us, others because they are aware of many of the good deeds that we give to our local communities or they have been recipients of some aspect of Masonic giving. Many are interested in the history and how and when we were formed. The recent proliferation of books that have some obscure and tenuous link with Freemasonry are usually written by authors who have no appreciation of what we are or what we stand for. To those that are in the fraternity it would appear they are only interested, by mentioning Masonry, in ensuring they will have an instant best seller and in improving their lot. It is hoped that if you are not a member and are browsing out of sheer interest that you might find something useful in this website, permit you to ask those questions that you have always wanted to ask by making comments on our guest page and generally improving your knowledge about Freemasonry in general and Cornwall in particular. There are two centres in Cornwall that could benefit any student of Masonry one at Hayle and another at Redruth. The Hayle Masonic centre deals with Freemasonry since 1752 in Cornwall and has many unique exhibits and is a must for any student of our order. The Redruth museum deals predominately with the history and culture of Masonry in the immediate area and how it has evolved since the early 1800s. The curators would be only too pleased to show any interested person around after telephoning the Provincial office for contact details. Another aspect of Masonic learning is via the Cornish Ashlar lodge, whose members are keen historians of our fraternity; again contact details can be obtained via the Provincial Office. Whatever the reason you have accessed our site it is hope that you find it useful and informative and we would welcome your comments Yours sincerely and fraternally, The Right Worshipful Brother James Kitson
