Two Durham Freemasons are preparing to undertake one of Britain's most iconic cycling challenges this summer as they set off on an epic journey from Land's End to John O'Groats in aid of the Durham 2032 Festival and St Cuthbert's Hospice.

Between 29th June and 9th July 2026, Worshipful Brother Eddie McGourley and Worshipful Brother Stephen Foster will cycle the length of Great Britain, covering hundreds of miles in support of these worthy causes.

Eddie, aged 83, is a former international cyclist and winner of the King of the Mountains title in the 1971 Milk Race. He hopes to become the fastest octogenarian to complete the challenge. Joining him is Stephen, aged 71, an experienced amateur cyclist who has competed in time trials around the world. With a combined age of 154 years, the pair are determined to prove that age is no barrier to achievement.

Supported by a dedicated crew travelling in a motorhome and support vehicle, the riders will make their way through England and Scotland before reaching their final destination at John O'Groats.

The Route

The route will take Eddie and Stephen from the very tip of Cornwall at Land's End all the way to the northernmost reaches of mainland Scotland. Daily stopping points may vary depending on weather conditions and wind direction, but supporters are encouraged to follow their progress throughout the journey.
