On a wet, grey, overcast day, the brethren of Cornwall descended on St Austell for the installation meeting of Carlyon Lodge No 7392, where W. Bro T J Cockings, our Provincial Grand Almoner, was to be installed into the chair of King Solomon.
The installing master, a very sprightly 87-year-old, W.Bro L J Lavender, proved that, while his body might be showing the signs of aging, his mind remains as sharp as ever, as he delivered the ritual superbly. Likewise, W.Bro Tim appointed and similarly invested his officers, with a mixture of skill and good humour, with the majority of the progressive offices being taken by the brethren wearing the light blue aprons. The working tools of the three degrees were presented and delivered excellently again by the light blue members of the lodge.
It was then onward to the installation banquet being held at The Carlyon Bay Golf Club, where the attending brethren were treated to friendship and companionship. The day was rounded off excellently with our PGM conferring a well-deserved field promotion on W.Bro L J Lavender, who was appointed Past Provincial Junior Grand Warden, to the rapturous applause of the brethren present.
Thank you to the brethren of Carlyon Lodge for giving us all a 5th of November to remember.
