Malcolm began his working life after leaving school at the age of 16. He enlisted in the Royal Air Force on 26 April 1965. He trained as an Aircraft Engineer, specialising in Airframes and Propulsion, at RAF St Athan in South Wales.
Following training, he was posted to RAF Abingdon with Aircraft Transport Command, later moving with the squadron to RAF Fairford, operating C-130 Hercules aircraft. In 1969, Malcolm was posted overseas, serving in Sharjah and Bahrain, where he worked on Andover aircraft for over a year.
Returning to the United Kingdom, he was posted to RAF Odiham in Hampshire, working on Wessex and Puma helicopters. His service also included operational duty in Northern Ireland. Malcolm completed his RAF career in August 1974, concluding nearly a decade of dedicated military service.
After leaving the Royal Air Force, Malcolm joined his father in the licensed taxi trade in Portsmouth. In 1976, he was granted his own Hackney Carriage licence by Portsmouth City Council. His entrepreneurial spirit soon led him to establish an insurance office specialising in taxicab insurance. After many successful years in business, he sold the company and, in 2006, retired to Cornwall.
A Lifetime in Freemasonry
Malcolm’s Masonic journey spans five decades of loyal service, commitment, and leadership across multiple Provinces and Orders.

He went on to become a Founder Member of Pilgrims Lodge No. 9198, serving as Worshipful Master from 1989 to 1990, and later receiving Provincial honours. He was also a Founder Member and Secretary of Tudor Rose Lodge No. 9477, serving as Worshipful Master from 1996 to 1997. Malcolm was honoured with the Provincial Rank of PPSGD in Hampshire and Isle of Wight and later promoted to the rank of PPGSwdB, before moving to Cornwall in 2006.
Following his move to Cornwall, Malcolm continued his Masonic service with distinction, notably in Loyal Victoria Lodge No. 557, where he served as Worshipful Master from 2009 to 2010, and later in Eliot Lodge No. 1164, receiving Provincial appointment in 2023. His Masonic involvement remains active to this day.
Beyond Craft Masonry, Malcolm has given outstanding service to Mark Masonry, Royal Ark Mariner, Chapter, Rose Croix, and Knights Templar, holding numerous senior Provincial appointments and offices over the years. His dedication, knowledge, and quiet leadership have earned him the respect and friendship of Brethren across Provinces.
